Trash and Recycling

Same Day, Single Provider Trash and Recycling Services at River Valley Ranch!

River Valley Ranch has experienced trash collection trucks on our community roads and trash cans lining our streets five days of the week for many years. This resulted in not only increased traffic and safety issues, but also has enticed local wildlife including bears, raccoon, and deer to rummage through trash set out for collection, causing a mess and endangering their lives.

Community members asked us to investigate alternative solutions to RVR’s trash collection needs. In an August 2014 survey of community members, 80% indicated they would prefer to move to a same day, single-provider arrangement for trash and recycling at RVR. (Click HERE to view the survey results.)

With this community mandate, the RVRMA Executive Board established a committee to initiate a Trash and Recycling Services bid process. After bids were received from three local providers (InterMountain, MRI, and Waste Management), an Advisory Committee of RVR homeowners reviewed the bids and made a recommendation to the Executive Board. The successful bidder was Mountain Refuse, Inc. (now Mountain Waste and Recycling) who offered the overall best package of service, price, quality, and convenience.

Holiday Collection Schedule

MRI observes the following holidays: Memorial Day, Labor Day, 4th of July, Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year's Day. (Note: This is due to the landfills being closed on these holidays.)

Trash will be picked up on Wednesday when one of these holidays falls on a Tuesday.

Trash Containers

RVR residents will receive a 96-gallon container and recycling tub(s) at no addition charge. The trash containers are wildlife resistant, but not wildlife proof. Please take adequate precautions to ensure your trash is contained totally within the trash cart and the lid is closed firmly.

Recycling

RVR residents will receive one recycling tub.  A second tub will be provided upon request at no additional charge.  Residents requiring a third bin will be charged $15.00. Recycling enables us to all do our part by reducing the amount of waste material that goes to our landfills. Convenient single-stream recycling at RVR means that you do not need to sort your plastic, glass, and metal recyclable materials. Newspaper, cardboard, and magazines should be bundled and placed below or on top of the recycling tub.  Please, do not put your recycling in plastic bags.

Frequently Asked Questions

Unimproved Lots

Q: I own a lot; will I be billed for trash/recycling service?
A: No. Empty lots or a home without a Certificate of Occupancy will not be billed.

Self-Service

Q: I dispose of my trash at my nearby business; will I be billed for RVR trash/recycling collection?
A: No. Residents who dispose of their refuse themselves will sign an agreement that they will not have service at their residence by another hauler. Keep in mind that the Town of Carbondale does not permit garbage drops anywhere.

Alternative Hauler

Q: Can I choose to use another trash hauler?
A: While residents may use a hauler other than MWR, you will still be billed for the RVR community contracted service as well. So, you would be opting to pay twice for trash and recycling services. Please remember that the primary purpose of this program is to reduce truck traffic on our streets.

Concerns and Questions

Q: Who should I contact with a trash/recycling problem or question?
A: RVR staff will be providing all the Customer Service for Trash and Recycling program...and we are just a phone call away! Call (970) 963-6300, extension 302 and we will help you resolve any issue you might have!

Service Stops

Q: When I am not in town, can I put a stop on my trash service?
A: Yes. Service and billing can be stopped for a full calendar month with at least 7 days notice to RVR staff. You will receive quarterly refunds for all documented service stops.
